Hi! I am Brian Marshall, the owner of the BC Placer website
Communications With Me
If you communicate with me by mail, email, phone, fax, etc., I do
what any reasonable person does. I may respond to the communication
and I may keep it.
As a general policy, I delete email to and from a person I don't
know as soon as it is practical, and I don't record anything about
- Email asking me a question, and any replies, are
kept until I am fairly sure the exchange is over - usually a
- Email requesting a Google Analytics report,
and my reply sending the report, are deleted immediately after
my reply is sent.
Email on my computer may be preserved on one or more of my system
I will never use your information to send bulk mail or email. I will
never give or sell any information about you to a third party unless
you explicitly give me permission or I am compelled by law.
Advertising on This Website
ad on This Website is an image
that is a link to the advertiser.
No ad on This Website is:
- "served" to you based on information about you
- involved in gathering information about you
- involved in tracking what you do on the web
Because I am offering advertising space on This Website, I use
Google Analytics for the sole purpose of getting highly summarized
website traffic information. This includes...
- total and unique page-views and visitors
- total sessions and average pages and time per session
- average time on each page
- proportion of new versus returning visitors
Information that I use to try to improve This Website includes:
I can also tell that most visitors come from Canada, and most of
those from BC.
- how often each page was used to enter or exit This Website
- average session times and pages per session
- the most common ways people move from page to page
I don't get any information about individual visitors.
This Website doesn't use Google's ads or social products.
I have turned off all options in Google Analytics to share data.
I get no information that you could object to, want to correct or
want to delete.
Google Analytics uses two cookies - small pieces of text stored by
your web browser. Neither one would seem to be a privacy concern...
- a cookie called _ga containing a random string
used to identify unique users anonymously
- a cookie called _gat used to prevent a visitor from generating
a huge number of "events". (This Website doesn't use events.)
This Website will work fine if you have set your web browser to
not accept cookies.
There is Me and there is Google
I don't think anyone could reasonably object to the information that
I get from Google Analytics.
However, Google requires that this policy include a way for you to
get more information about how Google Analytics collects and
processes data, and they recommend this link...
How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites
This document is vague about what information, if any, moves between
Google Analytics and other Google products and services, even with
the information-sharing options turned off. This isn't ideal, but it
is the way Google works.
If You Don't Like It...
If you object to Google setting cookies, you can block them with
your web browser - see the browser Help. This won't affect your
use of This Website.
If you would like to prevent Google Analytics from running at all
on your device, Google provides a browser Add-On that does this. It
won't affect your use of This Website. See...
